How do you fortify your spirit amid life's many challenges?
In recent years, actress Gwyneth Paltrow has faced her fair share of personal hurdles, including a highly publicized split with Coldplay front man Chris Martin. During a Q&A at Pearl xChange—a daylong women's empowerment conference founded by Nicole Richie, who also served as host for the event—the 43-year-old Oscar® winner outlined the things that bring her spiritual sustenance when she's in need of guidance.
"I meditate, and I believe in God," Gwyneth said. "I believe in God, and I believe that there is a reason that this is all happening, and if I can stay present to that divine energy, I can really cope with anything. It's only when my humanity takes over that I fall apart, you know, which happens and, of course, will always happen."
Gwyneth said she also frequently reflects on a quote from the poet Rainer Maria Rilke: "Believe me: life is in the right, always."
In the video above, Gwyneth explains what these words mean to her and how she conceives of God.
