In 2013, when Lisa Ling was 39, she had her first daughter, Jett, with her husband Paul Song. On June 6, 2016, she welcomed her second daughter, Ray, into the world.
As an award-winning reporter, Lisa has covered the drug war in Colombia, gang rape in India and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana. Family life, however, presents its own challenges, albeit very different ones. Lisa spoke with Oprah: Where Are They Now? before she had her second child and shared the greatest parenting advice she's heard. "The best piece of parenting advice I ever received is just be present, you know?" the award-winning reporter says. "I am as guilty as anyone for being addicted to my phone and being addicted to working, but she really starts to notice in."
Her daughter even calls her out on it. "If I'm on my phone emailing or texting, she'll sometimes say, ‘Get off your phone!' It's true, I try my best to give her my most undivided attention," Lisa says. "So, I try to be present as much as I can with her, when I'm in her presence, is something I really try hard to do. I could do better, though."
