Dolores Opens Up About Her Mother's Rape

Season 1 Episode 112
Aired on 03/11/2017 | CC tv-pg
When the Peetes recently visited Penllyn, Pennsylvania, the town where Holly's mom, Dolores, grew up, it brought back memories for the 80-year-old matriarch. One particularly painful story, Dolores says, was a confession that her mother made on her deathbed.

Dolores had never shared with Holly what was said that day, but she's ready to break her silence now: Dolores' mother was raped when she was a teenager. "In that day and time, it was her fault," Dolores says.

"Well, guess what? In this day and time, it's still their fault," Holly says, shaking her head.

In the above clip, Dolores opens up about how learning of her mother's rape has had an impact on her, and Holly resolves to have a talk with her daughter and sons about the rape culture that's still pervasive today.
