The Classic Relationship Mistake Karrueche Tran Made While Dating Chris Brown

In 2011, aspiring model and actress Karrueche Tran began her tumultuous relationship with R&B star Chris Brown. Just two years earlier, Chris had been charged with two felonies in the alleged beating of his then-girlfriend, pop star Rihanna.

Over the past four years, Karrueche's on-again, off-again relationship with Chris has played out on social media. Now, just weeks after Karrueche discovered that Chris is the alleged father of a 9-month-old child, she's sitting down with Iyanla Vanzant to share her side of the story.

During their conversation in Los Angeles, Karrueche reveals what she saw in Chris and why she stayed with him for so many years. "I wanted to love him because that's what he needs—love," she says.

Like many women in her situation, Iyanla says, Karrueche made a classic relationship mistake: She put her man's needs before her own. "[Women] believe that we are strong enough and that it is our responsibility to heal a man's wounds and damage," Iyanla says.
