If you've ever found the smoky eye look a bit intimidating, makeup artist Jillian Dempsey
, whose clientele includes stars like Kate Winslet and Jennifer Lawrence, has a simple tutorial you can follow for a seductive look created with just two products and a makeup brush.
Begin with a dark eyeliner pencil and gently line your lower lashes. By lightly running the pencil back and forth along the lower waterline, start from the outside corner of the eye and work your way in. Feel free to blend with a brush or, very lightly, with your finger.
Next, line your upper lash line and smudge lightly (dab gently with a brush or your finger for desired effect, making sure not to tug on skin). Now for Jillian's makeup twist: line the crease of your eyelid with the pencil in an upside down V-formation. The select a darker shade of eyeshadow (a smoky kohl or deep brown) and with a blending brush blend the shadow onto your lid while softening the pencil line. Continue to blend until you've reached a desired smoky, worn-in look.
Watch above for Jillian's pro application tips and give this tutorial a try for yourself! For an extra smoky look, use a black volumizing mascara (or for the truly bold, false eyelashes) and dust a light illuminating eyeshadow just below your eyebrows. Defining brows with a pencil or crayon can also add intensity and give extra shape to your face.
