The traditional gender roles in our culture start with the family. Author and Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Shefali Tsabary says that parents should consider teaching their children about the shifting dynamic between men and women and adopt an androgynous approach. For daughters, parents need to make sure they are in touch with their masculine side, like having an assertive voice. And for sons, Dr. Shefali says "no more 'man-up' or 'don't act like a girl'." Instead, both boys and girls should be in touch with their gender counterpart.
In doing so, parents have the power to ensure that the next wave of society is instilled with values of peace, acceptance, confidence and love. Rather than waiting for the next movement to arrive, Dr. Tsabary says we can all start now with our own children and usher in an era of enlightenment.
Dr. Shefali Tsabary received her doctorate from Columbia University, New York.
She specializes in the integration of Eastern philosophy and Western psychology and is a keynote speaker who presents at conferences and workshops around the world. Her latest book,
The Awakened Family, focuses on tactics for parents to better connect with their children and eliminate painful conflict often present in modern day families. This book, she says, "...will take you on a journey to transcending your fears and illusions around parenting and help you become the parent you always wanted to be: fully present and conscious. It will arm you with practical, hands-on strategies and real-life examples from my experience as a parent and clinical psychologist that show the extraordinary power of being a conscious parent."
Her other books include
The Conscious Parent and
Out of Control.
