Why Regina King Chose to Speak Out About Inequality at the Emmys

CC | tv-14
Film and television actress Regina King recalls penning a letter about the lack of nonwhite representation at the Emmys. "I kind of knew that once I pressed Send, I probably would never be nominated." However, that didn't stop Regina from speaking her mind about what she believed was consistent underrepresentation of nonwhite talent on TV and for industry awards.

To Regina's surprise, years later she was indeed nominated for an Emmy and won. This experience, Regina says, serves as an example of some sound advice: "Speak your mind eloquently, honestly, respectfully, and you still can win."
