Here is a basic recipe to which you can add any, or all, of the following: chopped, candied ginger; ground cinnamon; ground cloves and allspice; grated orange and lemon peel. Or, serve as is.
4 cups fresh cranberries
1 cup water
2 cups (or less) sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
Place the cranberries in a saucepan with the water. Cover and bring to a boil. Cook until the skins burst, 6 to 8 minutes.
Remove from the heat and add the sugar and salt. Stir thoroughly, cool and chill.
