Mushrooms are sensationally savory on top of a burger—but they're even better inside it. Adding chopped, sautéed mushrooms to a patty gives it a flavorful boost. And you're not only getting a juicier, more tender burger, you're eating less meat to boot.
Makes 4 patties
Ingredients
2 Tbsp. olive oil, divided
1/2 pound finely chopped cremini or white button mushrooms
1 pound ground beef
1/2 tsp. salt
4 hamburger buns
Desired toppings
Directions
Total time: 30 minutes
In a large skillet, heat 1 Tbsp. olive oil over medium-high heat. Add mushrooms and cook until golden brown, 5 to 7 minutes. Allow mushrooms to cool, then combine with ground beef and salt. Shape into 4 patties. In the same skillet, heat additional 1 Tbsp. olive oil over medium-high heat. Add patties and cook, flipping halfway through, about 4 minutes per side for medium rare. Place on hamburger buns, top as desired and serve immediately.
