In 2012, former Pennsylvania State University assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was convicted on 45 counts of child sexual abuse. Halfway through the nine-day criminal trial, his adopted son Matthew revealed to police that he had been molested by Jerry Sandusky from the time he was a child. In high school, Matthew says, he tried to break off all contact with his adoptive father. After he and a friend accidentally set a barn on fire at age 16, Matthew says, Jerry Sandusky gave him an agonizing choice: Go to juvenile detention or move into the Sandusky home.
