Q: Hi, Damone. I will be 52 in September. My makeup routine is stuck in the '80s. How can I present myself in a way that is acceptable for my age, yet look cool and hip? I'm young-looking for my age and not ready for a rocking chair. Thanks!— Karla, Oakland, California
A: Hi, Karla. I find it is uplifting to change things around from time to time. One thing I have noticed with a lot of women is they tend to stay in the same routine—appearance-wise—as when they felt most attractive. The '80s were about bright colors, and women now tend to favor neutral tones. Go out on a limb and try a new lipstick. Lastly, remember cool and hip have caused many people to look just the opposite...be yourself!
Q: Damone, your hair is always fabulous. What do you have on it...is it relaxed, or natural and then blown out? Whatever, it always looks great...please share some hair-care secrets!

A: Bobbye, thank you so much for the compliment! Believe me when I say I have done everything known to man on my hair at one point or another. Lately I have been thinking about experimenting with color. The one constant is keeping my hair healthy! I wash it weekly, and then deep condition. I also try to keep the ends trimmed once every two months. Product-wise, I am a fan of the Kimberly Kimble line available at Target.com.
Q: Dear Damone. My eye makeup never stays in place...no matter what products I try, or how I apply them. Particularly troublesome is how bad it gets when my eyes get tired...:I look worse than a raccoon!

A: Dear Lisa. The best way to get eye makeup to stay in place is to first apply a concealer on the eyelid, before setting with a loose powder. Apply your eyeshadow with a professional brush to get the color in the crevice, and use eyeshadows with a lot of pigment such as MAC or NARS. This combination will allow for the longest, possible wear.
