Steve Harvey's Guiding Principle in Life Came from His Friend's Dying Grandma

Season 6 Episode 605
Aired on 09/02/2017 | CC tv-pg
When Steve Harvey was asked by a friend to accompany him on a hospital visit to see the friend's ill grandmother, Steve figured he would simply lend his moral support. What actually happened, however, sparked a fundamental change in the comedian.

The grandmother, Steve says, posed a question to Steve's friend: Do you know your great-grandfather's name? The friend did not. "She said, 'You know why? [...] Because he didn't leave you nothing.' She said, 'When I die, I want you to go away from here and I want you to live your life so that your children's grandchildren will know your name.'"

Watch as Steve describes how the message changed him and his desire to leave a legacy for not just his children, but for the generations that follow.
