FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2005

Theodore R. Wasky, Special Agent in Charge of the Cleveland Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), for the Northern District of Ohio, announced the October 5, 2005, arrest of Niles Scott, age 50, of Cleveland, Ohio. Scott was wanted on State of Ohio charges of Rape and Kidnapping filed in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, in May of 2003. Scott was also charged with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution, and a federal arrest warrant was issued on July 8, 2003, by the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio.

The arrest of Scott was coordinated by the Diplomatic Security Service of the State Department and Belize authorities. Scott was arrested at a residence in Belize City, Belize. The arrest was the direct result of Scott being profiled on The Oprah Winfrey Show on October 4, 2005, and a viewer's tip led police to Scott's location. A tip was also received by the Cleveland Cuyahoga Fugitive Gang Task Force consisting of members of the FBI, Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department, Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority and the Ohio Adult Parole Authority who were investigating Scott as a fugitive from justice.

Scott is in the process of being returned to Cleveland, Ohio, to answer to the alleged charges. Any questions regarding this news release may be directed to Special Agent Scott T. Wilson at the Cleveland Office of the FBI, 216-522-1400.
