While hanging lanterns add the perfect subtle glow to any reception or outdoor event, they can be pricey. To get the same effect for less,
Home Made Simple designer Kenneth Wingard has an easy solution you can make in no time.
After purchasing plain white lamp shades and embroidery hoops from your local craft store, all you need is a glue gun to make these gorgeous lights. Apply a light amount of glue to one wooden embroidery hoop at a time and stick to the lamp shade off center at varying levels from top to bottom. The result is a playful, ethereal lantern that can give any party an island-inspired feel. Watch above for a quick tutorial and always be sure to use a glue gun with caution.
Kenneth Wingard has designed home furnishing merchandise for major retailers such as Crate & Barrel, Martha Stewart, Restoration Hardware and Target. Currently he's filming his fifth season as the lead on-camera designer for the Oprah Winfrey Network's Daytime Emmy-winning show Home Made Simple
