Charley Horse
A charley horse is nothing more than a muscle spasm that, while quick and harmless, can still be very painful. Muscle spasms commonly occur when your electrolytes are imbalanced, you're dehydrated, or that muscle is overworked. For instance, when muscles suddenly contract, your body's electrolytes can become imbalanced, causing nerves to fire uncontrollably. This is when charley horses happen.

The Fix: A knee-jerk reaction is to massage your leg, which does help with the pain from a charley horse. But, eating potassium-rich foods and replenishing your electrolytes is a good way to prevent an imbalance.

Try this electrolyte elixir for a delicious and natural way to replenish your body's calcium, sodium and potassium:

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup tomato juice
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Pinch salt
Directions

Mix all the ingredients together, and enjoy.
