Serves 4

This salad was invented in the late 1800s at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City.

  • 4 large Granny Smith apples, diced
  • 4 stalks celery, halved lengthwise and chopped
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, toasted and chopped
  • 4 Tbsp. raisins (optional)

In a bowl, combine the apples, celery, carrot, mayonnaise and lemon juice and stir well to combine. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Fold in the walnuts and raisins (if using).
