For a sophisticated St. Paddy's shake, try this twist on the egg cream from Leela Cyd, author of the forthcoming cookbook Food with Friends. Antioxidant-rich Japanese matcha powder supplies the pale green color and delicate tea flavor. Blend it with sweetened condensed milk and fizzy seltzer, and you're sure to have a lucky day.

Serves 2


  • 2 tsp. matcha powder
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 3 Tbsp. sweetened condensed milk
  • 1⅓ cup carbonated water, divided


    Total time: 5 minutes

    Chill 2 large, ice-filled glasses in the freezer. In a screw-top, pint-size glass jar, combine matcha powder, milk and sweetened condensed milk. Shake to combine. Remove glasses from freezer, divide matcha mixture between them, and top each with ⅔ cup carbonated water. Stir and serve immediately.
