Layering is key, says makeup artist Carmindy. Here's her technique:

Start with a dime-size amount of primer all over your face to even out skin texture.

Apply foundation over that. Carmindy recommends her own (naturally), a water-resistant, sweat-resistant formula that won't fade (Carmindy & Co Game Changer Foundation, $22.75; HSN.com).

Add a light dusting of translucent face powder to reduce shine. (I like Boots No7 Perfect Light Loose Powder, $12; Target.com)

Choose water-resistant eyeshadow and eyeliner. (Try Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick, $29; BobbiBrownCosmetics.com, and Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes, $19; Sephora.com)

Swirl a cream blush on the apples of your cheeks. Then dust a bit of powder blush over that in the same shade to set it. (Try Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick, $45; Chanel.com, and Sephora Collection Colorful Blush, $15; Sephora.com)

Brighten your mouth with a richly pigmented matte lip crayon. (I like Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, $26; NarsCosmetics)
