We Tried Lancôme's Custom Foundation, and It Was Even Better Than We Expected
Lancôme Le Teint Particulier custom foundation answered all our prayers for a foundation that works for dark skin tones.

A foundation formula just for me? Yeah, right. Over the years, I’ve tried dozens, and none has matched my chocolate skin tone. Even the darkest shades—“deep,” “cocoa,” “espresso”—are always too light. So Lancôme’s Le Teint Particulier custom-made foundation sounded too good to be true.
At Lancôme’s New York office, Jasmine Ferreira, director of education and artistry, did a deep dive into my foundation history—how often I want to wear it, what I like and dislike, and whether I prefer sheer, medium, or full coverage. Then, with a small device, she scanned three areas on my face and one on my neck to determine my “median shade.” The skin scanner sent the data to a computer, which used an algorithm to come up with my personal mix of pigments. Then an ingenious machine dispensed precise amounts of color into a bottle to be thoroughly blended. The finished product was labeled with my personal pigment ID number to make refills a breeze.
The custom formula blends into my complexion seamlessly. I never thought I’d say this, but I’ve met my perfect match.
