Jeffrey Meier Named Senior VP Scheduling, Acquisitions and Strategy
LOS ANGELES – Jeffrey Meier has been named senior vice president, scheduling, acquisitions and strategy for OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, effective immediately. Meier comes to OWN from TV One, where he served as acting head of programming. While at TV One, he spearheaded acquisitions and scheduled programming events such as the 30th anniversary rebroadcast of the Roots miniseries, resulting in record ratings for the channel.
In his new position, Meier will oversee all strategic scheduling, acquisitions and program planning for OWN. Additionally, he will negotiate acquisition deals, collaborate on original programming and manage content for alternate program platforms.
"Jeff's exceptional skill for creating strategic schedules and programming events is exactly what I was looking for with this position," said Robin Schwartz, president of OWN, to whom he will report. "His enthusiasm and sheer passion for programming will help to make OWN the best viewing experience that it can be."
Prior to his work with TV One, Meier ran his own consulting business, where he worked with a wide range of entertainment companies, including Lionsgate Entertainment, Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment and E! International. Before that, from 2000–2001, Meier was a programming executive at Packetvideo Corporation, and from 1999–2000 he worked at Telemundo Network Group LLC as vice president, programming and scheduling.
In addition, Meier has held the role of director, programming, research and development for Columbia Tristar International Television, where he helped to build a multibillion-dollar international cable channel business as the programming executive on the Sony channel task force.
