How Marc Summers' OCD Confession Got Him Fired

Season 4 Episode 417
Aired on 11/16/2014 | CC tv-14
In March 1997, the original host of Nickelodeon's Double Dare, Marc Summers, appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss a serious topic he says controlled his life for many years. Like millions of Americans, Marc suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Now, 18 years later, Marc, the longtime host of Food Network favorite Unwrapped, reveals how this admission stalled his career. "I was able to let other people know what OCD was, but for some reason, people in the industry weren't ready for it," he says. "Rumors got spread that I was a freak and that I was difficult to work with."

Around that time, Marc says, he had signed on to host Hollywood Squares but was fired before they got started because of his OCD. "It's funny, you could be a drug addict or an alcoholic and get a pass in Hollywood, but guy's got OCD? Holy mackerel, that's crazy."

Watch as Marc discusses the stigma surrounding OCD.
