Media Player Troubleshooting

Experiencing problems during play back? If you do experience trouble watching the on-demand video stream, please try the following trouble shooting steps.
  • Close the player window and re-launch the player.
  • Close down any other applications or browser windows that may also be running on your computer.
  • Ensure that your computer meets the minimum hardware and software requirements. Streaming video playback is extremely CPU (computer system) intensive. If your computer is running at or above about 75% you will likely encounter issues with sluggish or choppy playback. You can check your computer system usage by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del and then selecting "Task Manager". CPU usage percentages are listed under the "Performance" tab. You can reduce your computer system usage by closing other programs and background services which you have running at the same time as your web browser.
  • Your ability to watch the on-demand video is also largely determined by the speed and reliability of your Internet connection. Run a bandwidth check on your Internet connection. You will need to be able to download at a minimum of 250kbps (kilobytes per second) to view the content without problems. A few available sites for bandwidth testing are listed below. (Note: These sites are not provided by, monitored by or maintained by Oprah.com or Move Networks. We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any information contained on these websites.)

If you are unable to achieve the minimum amount of bandwidth, we recommend contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

  • Some antivirus programs, Internet security applications and/or content filters may interfere with Move media player's ability to provide uninterrupted playback by preventing timely delivery of the video content. Temporarily disabling these types of programs while viewing the website content may afford you a more enjoyable playback experience. For information on how to disable a specific program, please contact the software vendor.

The Move media player popped, but all I see is the loading message.
First, you'll want to make sure you have the Flash 9 plug-in installed in your browser. Click here to check . We also recommend closing down and re-launching the player.

General Questions and Audio/Video Troubleshooting

Why does the audio or video playback stop or stalls?

The on-demand video should not stop or stall under normal circumstances, however due to heavy Internet congestion your Internet connection may not be consistent or fast enough to handle the video stream.

  • Run a bandwidth check on your Internet connection. You will need to be able to download at a minimum of 250kbps (kilobytes per second) to view the content without problems. A few available sites for bandwidth testing are listed below. (Note: These sites are not provided by, monitored by or maintained by Oprah.com or Move Networks. We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any information contained on these websites.)

https://www.speedtest.net

  • You may also have multiple web browsers and/or applications open, such as e-mail or instant messaging programs; these can take up system resources and can reduce the quality of the video stream.

Why doesn't the audio or video play?
You may be running content filters, antivirus applications or have your proxy settings set where they prevent the streaming of the video content. Turn these applications off and try refreshing the video player.

Also, check that your speakers are turned on and not muted. If you are wearing a headset, make sure it is plugged in correctly.

What can I do if the video playback stops or plays slowly?
If playback stalls, you can usually begin again by refreshing your browser or closing your browser and opening it again.
How do I download a video or audio file to my computer from the site?
If you want to download a video or audio file from the site, the process will be different in Internet Explorer vs. Firefox.

Using Internet Explorer right mouse click on the file and select "Save Target As...", this will pop open the Save File window, from there you can select where you want to save the file.

Using Firefox just click the file to get the Save File window.
