Behind the Style

Our makeover participants—(from left) Ralinda, Angela, Amy and Felice—arrive ready to be transformed. To learn how our experts made them over from head to toe, read our "Have You Let Yourself Go?" makeover story in the January issue!

Angela gets a proper bra fitting at Intimacy Bra Fit Specialists, an intimate apparel store in New York City.

Intimacy helped all of our makeover candidates find a proper fitting bra.

The makeover participants get ready for their new do's at the Frédéric Fekkai Salon.

Frédéric Fekkai puts the finishing touches on a trim.

Frédéric gives Amy a layered bob to make her natural curls more noticeable.

No makeover is complete without great shoes.

A fashion assistant organizes clothes and accessories in preparation for the big final shoot.

Mally Roncal, our makeup artist, used her line of make-up (Mally Beauty) to help glam up our participants.

Mally Roncal wanted Angela to look fierce for her job as a prosecutor, but not hard. "I focused on Angela's eyes curling her lashes, adding lots of black mascara and black eyeliner on her upper and lower lids."

For a picture perfect look, Mally dabs a final bit of lip gloss on Felice. "I emphasized her full lips with a light peach gloss," explains Mally. "I added a pearly gloss to the center of her bottom lip to make it look even fuller."

Brooke Kosofsky Glassberg interviews Felice about how she felt after getting her makeover. "I have to start pulling in clients for my company," says Felice, who is the CEO of a title insurance company, "and I'm not feeling confident being out in public and making sales calls."

Amy, a camera assistant and operator, weighs in on her makeover shots.
