Owen Suskind was diagnosed with autism at age 3. For the next several years, he barely communicated—until his parents learned they could speak to Owen using dialogue from Disney movies. The family's journey is captured in the new film "Life, Animated," which shows how the magic kingdom helped Owen, now 25, discover his own voice. Watch the trailer below.

In the film, Ron Suskind, Owen's father, recalls the striking moment he and his wife heard Owen say a sentence, four years after his diagnosis: "We're beginning to give up hope and one day we're watching the Disney animated movies and he says, 'He doesn't want to grow up like Mogli or Peter Pan.'"

The documentary comes out Friday, July 1. It is based Ron Suskind's best-selling book about his family's experiences.
