Season 4 Episode 412
Aired on 10/20/2014 | CC
In 1988, Shadoe Stevens, a radio host from North Dakota, landed the gig that would turn him into one of the most recognized voices in the world. He was asked to take over American Top 40, the radio show made wildly popular by Casey Kasem. During Shadoe's seven years hosting the program, it became one of the most successful radio shows in the world, with 1 billion listeners every week.

Before he landed that dream job, Shadoe says, he was an addict who had been abusing drugs since the late '60s. Now 30 years sober, Shadoe invites cameras into his home in Los Angeles. Every year, he celebrates his sobriety with his wife, former model Beverly Cunningham, and two daughters, Amber and China Rose.

"Today actually marks my dad's 30th sobriety anniversary," Amber says. "We celebrate every single year, and so that day is today, but every Sunday from that week we go to a meeting together."

Watch as Shadoe reveals why he thought his life was over 30 years ago.
