Mackenzie Phillips on Staying Sober

Season 5 Episode 511
CC | tv-14
When Mackenzie Phillips was 11 years old, she tried cocaine for the first time. Her father, Mamas & Papas singer John Phillips, supported Mackenzie’s burgeoning addiction, even injecting her with drugs.

For a decade, she and her father entered into an incestuous relationship, as detailed in her tell-all memoir High on Arrival. Her drug abuse, however, would continue long after that, and Mackenzie was arrested for trying to smuggle heroin and cocaine through airport security in 2008.

Today, Mackenzie is sober and working as a rehab counselor at the Pasadena Recovery Center. Here, Mackenzie reveals why she never would have been abel to stay sober had she held on to her family’s dark secret.
