Growing Pains Star Jeremy Miller: "I Began Drinking at 4 Years Old"

Actor Jeremy Miller—best known for playing Ben Seaver on TV's Growing Pains—began working at age 5. Even though his career took off almost immediately, it wasn't without its pitfalls.

"There were a lot of perks to being a kid star on TV. You're constantly taken care of, there's always people watching out for you," Jeremy says. "The being treated differently plays both sides. That was something as a kid I really understood at a young age, so I was very cautious about the people I involved in my life."

While Jeremy was enjoying the perks of being a child star, few knew that he was battling with alcoholism. Having had his first drink at age 4, he says he never had the "off switch" to stop drinking—and it was years before he confronted his problem.
