How Willie Jessop Learned the Shocking Truth About His Prophet, Warren Jeffs

Season 5 Episode 416

When Oprah first met Willie Jessop in 2009, he was head of security for Warren Jeffs, leader of a breakaway Mormon sect called the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS). At the time, Jeffs was behind bars in Arizona on the charge of accessory to rape. Willie and the people on the Yearning for Zion Ranch, home to the most devout FLDS members, believed that Jeffs had been falsely accused.

Two years after Oprah's visit, Willie says he learned the truth about Jeffs, a man in whom he had had complete faith. Willie personally interviewed young girls who confirmed that they were forced to have sex with Jeffs on a secret bed inside the ranch's sacred temple.

"My crisis of life was the day that I interviewed those little girls," Willie says. "It was the 9/11 of my life. It was catastrophic to think that my modern-day prophet was actually engaged in this horrific act."

In the above video, Willie reveals how Jeffs used religious language to cover up these horrific acts.
