Season 6 Episode 610
Aired on 03/16/2015 | CC tv-14
Oprah's Book Club 2.0 author Cynthia Bond was inspired by stories from her family's past and her own difficult times to write her best-selling debut novel, Ruby. When Cynthia was challenged by difficult circumstances and she wanted to give up, she says, it was her mother's love that sustained her.

Tears well up in Cynthia's eyes as she remembers a time when her mother came to her side. "I had this sense that my mother took her spirit and braided it into my own and gave me her strength so that I could keep going," she says. "And over and over and over again, my mother has been that for me."

Oprah is moved by Cynthia's story. "That's powerful. I've never heard it phrased that way before," Oprah says. "But that's what a mother would do."
