Released Takes a Closer Look at Life After Prison

CC
The new OWN docuseries Released shows what life is really like for men and women that are re-entering society after serving time in prison. On the show, viewers get an intimate look at the challenges that many individuals face as they work to start careers, rebuild relationships with their family, and adjust to life in a society that doesn't always embrace former prison inmates.

"Who I was in my past will not determine who I am today," says Memo, a man who was incarcerated for 20 years before being released from prison in December 2016. Like Memo, the six people profiled in Released all must learn to readjust to life on the outside while also combating the stigmas associated with having a criminal record.

Here, formerly incarcerated men who got a chance to preview Released talk about the challenges that they have faced since re-entering society.

Tune in to Released Saturdays at 10/9c—only on OWN.
