Gladys Knight on Why She Went Solo

When Motown legend Gladys Knight decided to disband Gladys Knight & the Pips after 40 years together, she wasn't just leaving her group; she was leaving her family.

"I told my brother, 'I have to go,'" Gladys says, looking back on how she broke the news to her bandmate and brother, Merald Knight. "He was upset by that because he knew the group that we had known for 40 years was about to come to an end."
