Wisteria Lane's New Neighbor
The mysterious Wisteria Lane has a new neighbor moving in —Karen Stouffer, a.k.a. Oprah!
"Oh, my God," Oprah says as she tours the set as the newest cast member. "It's so nice. What a nice neighborhood. I'm moving into what used to be Fred Munster's house [from the show The Munsters], and I'm excited about that! I liked Fred. He was a friendly kind of guy."
Before show time, Oprah met her on-screen husband, Gordon Stouffer, for the first time.
"So all of you who have been wanting me to get married, enjoy this one," Oprah says. "I need a wedding ring. It took coming to Wisteria Lane to get one. I might as well take a big one!"
We took a sneak peak into Eva Longoria's closet. Her fun wardrobe consists mostly of sexy lingerie for her scenes with her on-screen husband and of course, the gardener!
"This is my closet," Eva says. "This is Gabrielle's closet, really. … Maybe Oprah should wear this for the scene we're doing today. Do you think she'll wear it?"
One of the biggest mysteries on the block is why Mary Alice killed herself. Brenda Strong is the actress who brings Mary Alice to life by narrating the trials and tribulations of the women of Wisteria Lane each week. But would she reveal to Oprah the show's biggest secret?
Oprah: Do you know why you killed yourself?
Mary Alice: I can't tell you.
Oprah: Now that you're dead, do you think it was worth it, killing yourself over it?
Mary Alice: Now that I know we have a hit show? Absolutely not!
"Desperate Housewife" Teri Hatcher took center stage at the 2005 Golden Globe Awards, winning Best Actress in a Comedy Series. She admitted in her acceptance speech that not long ago, she felt she was considered a "has been" in the entertainment industry. So what's the best part of being the new "It" girl?
Teri: [The best part is] getting to work with this great group of people. There's a lot of rumors about us not getting along, and we all do.
Oprah: The camaraderie is so great, though. You can feel it here on the set. And everybody just works their butts off!

So it was almost time for Oprah to work her own butt off in her starring debut in Desperate Housewives! It took 200 crew members to help "Karen and Gordon" move into the neighborhood. Take after take, Oprah had plenty of stamina to hang with the pros!
In the special Desperate Housewives' episode for The Oprah Show, Oprah's character, Karen Stouffer, was tired of her stressful job and the demands of running a multi-million dollar corporation. So she and her husband decided to give it all up for a simple life in the suburbs. Unfortunately for Karen, she would soon discover life on Wisteria Lane was anything but simple.
"I have to say this, I need to say this," Oprah says. "I work a lot. I put in a lot of hours doing
The Oprah Show . But I have never had more fun in my life than going to Wisteria Lane. I cannot tell you what a thrill it was to be on the set. This cast is the nicest bunch you're ever gonna meet. I even found myself a husband, honey. … To [creator] Marc Cherry and [co-executive producer] Michael Edelstein and the entire crew, everybody who made that happen, that was one of the best days of my life. "
