Steve Harvey on the Major Difference Between Your Career and Your Calling

Season 4 Episode 408
Aired on 09/07/2014 | CC tv-14
Comedian Steve Harvey was once a college dropout who drifted from one dead-end job to the next. Today, at age 57, he's an award-winning talk show host with a popular radio show and best-selling books.

How did he find his life's purpose? The first step to reaching your full potential, Steve says, is to understand the difference between your talent and your gift. "You can be a good accountant," he says in the above video. "You can be a good lawyer. That could be your talent. ... See, your talent will allow you to have a wonderful career, but this is what I've learned: Your career is what you're paid for. Your calling is what you're made for."

Until you discover what your gift is, Oprah says, your life feels aimless.

"Your calling is tied directly to your gift," Steve says. "It's the only way."
