How to Tell If It's Too Early to Put a Child in an Activity

One Lifeclass audience member says that she is one of those parents who "forced" her 8-year-old into playing the drums because she thought he displayed a natural talent for music. Now, she wonders if she picked an instrument that he wanted to play or one that she wanted him to play.

"At a young age, how do we find their natural talents ... so that they can be happy with what they're doing, and themselves?" she asks.

Parenting expert Dr. Shefali Tsabary believes that the audience member has already answered her own question. "Your question had the answer embedded in it," she says. "But you perhaps didn't hear it."
