I'm a big snacker—I mean huge. I'm always on the run, grabbing little bites along the way. (In fact, I consider snacking so essential that I devoted a chapter to it in my latest cookbook, Good Food, Good Life.) It's actually the way most chefs spend their days, tasting here and there as they create new recipes. I've found that snacking throughout the day is a great way to keep my energy up—as long as those bites aren't too indulgent. To make it easier to choose healthy options, I'll whip up fruit- and veggie-centric components and keep them on hand. If I mix together a bright and spicy tomatillo salsa, I can grab it from the fridge when hunger strikes and spoon it over half a ripe avocado (nature's own bowl).

Frozen Chocolate-Peanut-Butter Banana Bites
With the help of my son (and junior sous chef), Hudson, I'll spread peanut butter between slices of banana, drizzle these little "sandwiches" in rich bittersweet chocolate and store them in the freezer so they're ready to eat on the fly; it's a simple, sweet bite that we're both into.

Labneh with Herbed Cucumbers
On a warm day, nothing tastes better to me than labneh, a creamy Middle Eastern yogurt cheese, topped with crisp cucumber slices and scooped up with toasted pita. Who needs prepackaged junk food when you've got delicious tidbits like these on hand? They're all that—and not a bag of chips.
