Is there someone you need to forgive in order to move on with your life? Dr. Ned Hallowell, psychiatrist and author of Dare to Forgive , says there are four basic steps to forgive others. Start by acknowledging the hurt. "A lot of men don't even get that far," Dr. Hallowell says. Then ask: What do I want this pain to turn into. Next, you work through your pain. Lastly, you let go of your rage and resentment.

"In order to forgive we must renounce resentment or anger," Dr. Hallowell says in his book. "We do not have to forget, ignore or condone anyone or anything. We just have to renounce our anger and resentment."
