The Moment Pastor John Gray Heard the Call

When Pastor John Gray preaches at Houston's Lakewood Church, his unique mix of humor, music and passion leaves the country's largest congregation transfixed. Watching him in action, it's easy to see why: John is not your typical preacher.

Still, being a pastor isn't a life path John thought he would choose. Growing up, he aspired to become a lawyer or a politician until, at age 13, John was pulled in a different direction. "I was 13. It was a Tuesday night, and it was a revival at the Bethel Baptist Church, in Cincinnati, Ohio," he says. "Stained glass windows. The Hammond B-3 organ. And the gentleman who was the revivalist, as he was speaking, I literally felt God saying, 'I'm calling you into the ministry.' I felt God."
