ART FROM THE HEART
David is a designer for the OWN digital media team. By day, he creates some of the pages you see on Oprah.com and OWN Insider. But on his OWN time, David likes to spend his time creating art. Not only does he create art, he uses it to help others. Every year, David donates a piece of his art (see picture below) to the annual “Art from the Heart” event to benefit the University Art Gallery at Sonoma State University.
David’s art is just one of the pieces in a silent auction that will be sold on February 13, along with donated items from Sonoma County businesses. The University Art Gallery is always open to the public, so if you’re ever in the area stop by and check it out! Thursday, January 28, 2010
I DANCED IN A FLASH MOB
A flash mob in itself is a pretty peculiar occurrence, and surely an experience to remember and treasure for a lifetime. With weeks of rehearsal boiling down to this moment, along with rumors that Miss Janet Jackson herself was going to show up, I was bubbling with excitement. Here you are, waiting for your time to shine and dance like everyone’s watching. Nail biter for sure! Watch video from this flash mob performance on YouTube. The first performance was amazing! We really took the crowd by surprise and were able to produce the ‘shock and awe’ element of a flash mob; but nothing could compare to the second performance. There were paparazzi and people everywhere- -hanging off balconies, lampposts, and garbage bins. Between Facebook and Twitter, people had taken to the streets to see if the rumors of the icon showing up were true! And so they were! After performing three flash mobs within a span of hours, I was exhausted. But I will never forget the wonderful mixture of emotions I felt. We were all stars for a day. I’m sure Janet herself would agree. Thursday, January 28, 2010
I ALSO DANCED IN A FLASH MOB
I had heard of flash mobs and watched the widely known "I Got a Feeling" performance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. I have always joked, but honestly truly dreamed, about strolling through the street, and everyone spontaneously breaking into song and dance. Flash Mob America turned that wish into reality. After a few rehearsals throughout LA, the locations were released, and I tweeted the details. We showed up at the Grove, startled bystanders by instantly breaking into dance, and nonchalantly continued on our way. Overall, I could never have imagined that I would come together with Janet Jackson fans all over LA and perform for her. Flash Mob America does not discriminate based on dance experience or time commitment. Anyone can join, and I can guarantee that everyone involved will be officially hooked on spontaneous, synchronized steps. Wednesday, January 27, 2010

GET TO KNOW BENNY...
As the Director of Programming, Benny is part of the creative team tasked with finding and creating the shows that will air on the network. During the production process Benny works closely with the Producers as the episodes are shot. Favorite website? I recently discovered Mint.com, and I am addicted. Favorite new gadget? My favorite new gadget is definitely the Kindle. As a guy who loves technology and practically has every gadget out there, I had wanted one for quite some time. Favorite food? Anything my mother cooks for me …. I am a mama’s boy! :) A city/country you’d like to visit/explore: Tokyo (Japan) is at the top of my list of places to go. Born and raised in Philadelphia, I have always loved the energy and fast pace of the big city. While others might prefer an exotic escape I prefer exploring new cities! What you most like to do on Sunday: There is only one thing I dislike about Sunday, and it’s the fact that it’s always followed by a Monday. :) On a serious note, Sunday is the one day of the week that I always try to dedicate to myself. It’s a day to sleep in, relax and re-energize for the week ahead. During football season you can usually find me curled up in front of the TV watching the games. |
