With more than 20 years in the interior design business, Charlotte Moss is an acclaimed designer who is well known for creating comfortable, livable spaces. "I view my job as being in the 'ambiance business,' creating environments that speak to the personality of the person or trying to bring that out," Charlotte says. When she isn't designing interiors, Charlotte spends time managing her retail store, writing books (she has six!), lecturing about home, art and culture and working with charities. Nate talks with Charlotte about her design style, trends and what home means to her.

Charlotte's signature design philosophy is couture living, which personifies elegantly curated spaces that are meant to be lived in, enjoyed and used to entertain. Today, Charlotte finds herself designing with fewer items, focusing instead on those of a higher quality. "It's not about volumes of things—it's about one great thing," she says.

Charlotte also advises people against decorating their homes according to trends—instead, she says trends should be used to influence and accessorize. "When it comes down to it, it's all about where a person is headed, what they really love," Charlotte says. "Listen to yourself, take risks and don't over-edit by listening to other people."

For Charlotte, home is definitely a refuge. "It's the center of the universe; it always has been for me," she says. "Everything always comes back to home."
