Bobby Shriver and Dr. Helene Gayle are taking on some of the biggest issues facing the world today. At Maria Shriver's 2007 Women's Conference in California, Dr. Robin talks with Bobby about his mission to help end AIDS in Africa through the
(RED)™ campaign and with Dr. Gayle about her work as president of CARE, an international organization dedicated to fighting poverty. Bobby says the (RED) campaign has raised $45 million to date, which has helped 1.5 million people living with HIV/AIDS get access to the life-saving medicines they need. He says everyone can make a difference simply by choosing to purchase (RED) campaign products, from cell phones to sneakers. Dr. Gayle says that CARE is working in 66 countries around the world with people who live on less than $1 a day to help them gain access to better education, health resources, food, shelter and more. She says that when Americans help those who are living in the margins of society, they help better their own situation, too. "We have to remember that in the interconnected world that we live in today, what happens 'over there' also affects us," she says.
