What is on your Vision Board?

Posted on Feb 7, 2008 11:55 AM

I don't often get a chance to watch Oprah, but for some reason (divine intervention??), I turned it on yesterday and was mesmerized by the show about 'The Secret'.

I was so incredibly inspired by this show. I have a great life (fantastic family, education, good job, friends, etc), but have always felt something missing, and I know exactly what it is - I don't feel as connected to the people around me. I want to have the kind of relationships that I see other people have. My husband and I have a great relationship, but I miss having deep friendships with girlfriends.

This morning I decided to create a Vision Board. I started a list of what I wanted on it and was totally shocked to see what was missing from my list! I thought that it would have a big house, items related to money, etc. but it didn't. My list was almost entirely about how I want to change my connection with other people, my dreams, and how I live my life day-to-day. It really surprised me! Of course, there are a few items that are related to money and 'things' - geez, a girl's gotta have some stuff! :-)

So, here's what is going on my vision board (so far):
* Jewelry Designer (I love making jewelry but have never had the confidence to take it to the next level)
* Being my own boss (I've always wanted to have my own business in a creative, artsy industry, like scrapbooking or jewelry making.)
* Pictures of me with my friends (I hope this inspires me to reach out to them more)
* Creative and inspiring words (to remind me to start my day with positive thoughts)
* A picture of a woman with a healthy, fit body, dressed fashionably (I want to start dressing with more confidence and the great body - heck, we all want that, don't we!! )
* Lotto ticket (here's my money item :-) ) I noticed Jenny McCarthy had lotto tickets on her vision board. I thought that was really interesting!
* Another item which will remain secret - I have this dream and I won't say what it is.

Like I said, I'm really surprised at what is on my list. I'd love to see what other people are putting on their vision boards!

Since the show yesterday I too have decided to make a vision board. Some of my things to go on it are:

1. Get the big tv out of the livingroom and put a piano in (used is ok)
2. Eat healthier
3. Learn how to work with silver clay
4. Learn how to hook wool rugs
5. Make a sewing room and exercize room in my basement and use it!!!
6. Work on my fear of driving through cities
7. Resist temptation to get a dog for several years
8. Visit my parents more often
9. Look for gems and minerals and learn how to set them in settings
10. Work on keeping a tidier house
11. RETIRE ASAP

My vision board is actually a video that we made of my future life - as if it's already happened! It was pretty fun to make!
A few things on it:

  • some video of me in Paris
  • me on the Oprah show
  • a betselling self help book
  • family vacations
  • lots of philanthropy

I love the fact that I can SEE everything happen to me. It helps my brain to process the fact that it's possible. AND bonus, I can e-mail it to my friends when they ask what my goals are, and I can show it to my children - and that's powerful to have my family onboard.

My husband and I decided that this idea was so cool that we started a company that films vision boards! That's pretty funny because you know, I had working with my husband on my cut and paste board and now we are indeed in business together.

I've recently found myself unmotivated in my life and searching for ways to make changes. When I saw the vision board on The Oprah Winfrey Show something justed "clicked" for me. I can't wait to get started! Here's just a few of the things I would like to put on my vision board:
- fruits and vegetables to inspire me to cook with fresh ingredients
- pictures to inspire me to do more yoga
- an airplane with my next travel destination
- a graduation cap and gown to push me towards finishing college
- a stork (I would love another child!!)
- a picture of my husband and I on our wedding day to remind me of the reasons I had for marrying him
- a craft project done with my daughter to remind me of how much fun we have doing crafts together
- a picture of a brain to inspire me to do things that challenge my mind
- a picture of a tanning salon (not because I need a tan!) My sister and I have always wanted to own a tanning salon.

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day and my husband and I have made plans to spend our Valentine's making a vision board for the three of us. I think this will be the best Valentine's Day we've ever spent together because we are going to be working on finding our inspirations to acheive our goals and make positive changes in our family. And for once I can feel some motivation stirring up inside of me. Wish me luck ;)

My husband and I were in bed watching the local 1 a.m. broadcast of Oprah, when we saw the segment about The Secret and where people were showing their Vision Boards.

I had originally thought to use a small cork board that I have had for a long time, to make a Vision Board for myself, with professional and personal goals, but, then Husband and I decided to do one together.

We bought a large cork board and put it up on the bedroom wall. One third of it is for my dreams, one third is for dreams we have together, and one third is for his dreams.

On my side of the board, I have:

  • a weekly grid showing my ideal teaching schedule (I am building a private vocal studio)
  • Mock-ups of concert programs in important venues, with groups that I respect, featuring me as a soloist
  • checks for singing fees and teaching fees received
  • a photocopy of my current car title (paid off completely, free and clear with no liens), altered to show the specs of the car I would like to have (Volvo C30), in addition to the full spec sheet downloaded from the Volvo site
  • a picture of a fit and trim body, and a thank you letter to the plastic surgeon that helped me attain it (I have lost quite a bit of weight and I will need skin tightening)
  • A mock-up of a Green Card (I am currently in the process of transacting one because I married a U.S. citizen) with my photo and information.

On our shared side of the board:

  • credit card pay stubs with zero balances
  • bank balances reflectign our desired figures
  • a photo of ourselves in college in 1987 (we were reunited after 18 years apart) and a photo from our honeymoon in early 2006.
  • A sketch of the master suite remodel we would like to do, with pictures of the bathroom and walk-in closets

On his side of the board:

  • photoshopped images of himself and high-profile players in the movie industry, doing business together (he is a high-end audio and video designer), and checks from such players for the figures he would like to receive for his work.

I am happy that my husband is in this with me, and is happy to put his dreams up on the board, and share my enthusiasm for practicing the Law of Attraction.

Hi there,

even though this post is quite old (last year) I
still wanted to respond as I am passionate about the use of Vision
Boards. I use it all the time to stay inspired for my goals. I have
achieved a number of things that I had on my Vision Board, for instance
I now have two healthy children for which I am so extremely grateful! My husband
and I also have our own business OrangePeel Vision Boards (yes, focused on creating vision boards, using our specially created Vision Board creation software; Vision Boards are our passion!)) We work from home, a goal we have had
for a long time. It is amazing to be able to spend a lot of time with
the kids and work around them. Goals I now have on my Vision Board,
still to achieve:

  • a beautiful home with an organic veggie garden en a great view
  • A campervan to travel New zealand and have quality time with the family
  • A healthy, energized body :)
  • An image representing a peaceful and grateful mind

I know that by looking at my vision board each and every day with intent and with the FEELING AS IF I already have these goals in my life, I will attract them. LOA is NOT just a "fashion" thing, it works always for everyone, so the key is to make use of it :)!

Thanks all of you for messages, very inspiring!

Linda! That is so great to hear, and also everyones story on working on their Vision Boards.

Recently, I have moved to SF to follow my heart with the Culinary Field. Before I moved here, I made my vision board, and actually got a phone call for an interview 2 days before I moved at a restaurant I adored!

Then I was so nervous on the way to the interview....maybe that is why it flopped? They told me I was "overqualified". Such a bummer.

So I have been working on my Vision Board again for a new job...

anyone have suggestions? I am planning on adding the specific job to my Vision Board.

This is what I have on my board:

  • money (to help me through the hard economic times. who wouldn't want that right now?!)
  • confidence (been reading Norman Vincent Peale)
  • San Francisco ( I want to stay here!)
  • Meditate more (have more peace of mind)
  • I want to be a Pastry Chef, so I have the schools I want on there and a female Pastry Chef.
  • Give and be Grateful. (The feeling of being Grateful is so overwhelming and beautiful, and especially these days)
  • A couple bakeries I would like to work at.

You all are great, and keep your head up. That is something I have been struggling with these past few months, and I will persevere!
