Sometimes TV shows released decades ago are still, in some ways, ahead of their time. Kathy Garver tells Oprah: Where Are They Now? that Family Affair, the show on which she played the teenager "Cissy," offered a window into a lifestyle that you just didn't see on TV at the time.
"It was one of the first shows to highlight a family that wasn't a traditional family, but here was a bachelor uncle with three orphaned nieces and nephews to care for, and a 'manny,' as we would call him today," Kathy says.
The "manny" character, Mr. French, was the family's servant and caretaker of the children. "It was really kind of groundbreaking in that aspect," Kathy says.
Tune in Saturday, August 20, at 10/9c for Oprah: Where Are They Now?
