Mandy Moore poses for a shot

To shoot this month's fashion story celebrating comfy yet stylish sweaters, boots, scarves, and coats, O went west. To California. You may wonder where we found that rustic backdrop of log cabins, barns, and covered bridges in a terrain better known for palm trees. Courtesy of Disney, of course, consummate purveyor of fantasy.

Just outside Los Angeles, the Golden Oak Ranch is said to have been named for the gold that was discovered in the area well over a century ago. Walt Disney Productions purchased it in 1959, and the 890-acre "movie ranch" has served as backdrop to such movies and TV shows as Back to the Future, MacGyver, Bonanza, The Twilight Zone, and Entourage.

MOORE TAILGATES BACK AT THE RANCH
When our crew visited in August, the weather didn't exactly conjure a crisp November day. But Mandy Moore was a great sport, posing for eight hours in wool coats and faux fur as the temperature climbed into the 90s. "I managed not to sweat too much!" she reports.

A self-proclaimed "boring" dresser, Moore had a blast trying on the season's brightest, most creative finds. "They made me feel like I lived up in the Northeast somewhere and had nothing to do all day but be effortlessly stylish," she says.

Moore also declared herself "very influenced" by creative director Adam Glassman and the O fashion team. "It wasn't lost on me the way they threw on the jewelry, the scarves," she says. "I'd love to be able to express myself more in the way I dress." Glassman credited Moore with a championship attitude: "Mandy was the kindest, most charming, most spirited and delightful young woman to work with," he said. "We had fun."
