Tracy Henry, 52, avoided liner because she thought it made her eyes seem tiny. But as Giorgio Armani beauty makeup artist Tim Quinn showed her, the right makeup—including liner—can actually leave her eyes looking wider and brighter.

Step 1
Line the outer two-thirds of the upper lid with black pencil, pulling the line up and out slightly at the end. (A full line from corner to corner makes eyes look narrower.) To widen eyes more, use a flesh-tone pencil to trace the inner rim of the lower lid.

Step 2
Fill in the brows—which lifts, widens, and frames the eyes—using short, feathery strokes. Then comb through the brows with a spoolie brush.

Step 3
Sweep a pearlescent nude eyeshadow from lashline to crease. Then dot another eyeshadow, one shade lighter, directly in the middle of the lid for an extra highlight.

Step 4
Curl lashes. Then apply black mascara to the upper and lower lashes, focusing on the outer corners. This creates a winged effect, opening the eye area.
