What's the first thing you notice when you look in the mirror? Gorgeous, right?
"No, actually. I see dry skin. Or that my complexion's a little red. But I do see positive attributes, too."

What's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to you about the way you look?
"That he couldn't tell how old I was."

What's the best beauty advice anyone's ever given you?
"To drink lots of water and to use natural skincare products. I can't live without Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream; it's moisturizing but doesn't feel heavy."

What else is in your bag?
"Lancôme lipstick in Sugared Maple [a violet-brown]; Essie nail polish in Soho Nude—it goes with everything; Kiehl's Lip Balm, which helps the chapped lips I get from talking a lot on the set."

What's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to you about the way you look?
"Someone told my granddaughter—who calls me D.D.—that she looked like her mother, and she said proudly, 'No, I have D.D.'s legs!'"

Has anyone ever dared to give you beauty advice?
"When I was being photographed for the cover of Interview magazine in 1976, the hairstylist, Ara Gallant, told me to let my curly hair go natural. I did, and it was hugely freeing."

Is that a camera in your bag?
"I carry a camera to shoot things that might give me ideas for prints for my fabrics, and I carry my DvF Beauty Glamour Compact—which includes powder, blush, lipcolor, and eye shadow—and one of my Cheeksticks. And photos of my kids and grandkids, of course."

What would you never put on your face?
"I'd never wear a heavy foundation, which can look like a mask. I like my skin to show through, so I use my own DvF Beauty Skin Tint with SPF 15."

Michelle Williams, singer, star of Broadway's Aida, 23

What's the first thing you notice when you look in the mirror?
"The mole on my cheek. My grandmother has one, and my dad does, too; so mine makes me feel connected to them."

What's the best beauty advice anyone's ever given you?
"Before I got into Destiny's Child, I had bushy eyebrows and a mustache. Reggie Wells [Oprah's makeup artist] met me at a model search and told me, 'You cannot succeed in this industry like that!' I went right to a salon and got waxed."

What's in your bag?
"L'Oréal Double Extend mascara, Cover Girl Perfect Blend Eye Liner, MAC Studio Moisture Fix because my skin can get dry, MAC Studio Fix powder/foundation because I can look shiny under stage lights, and a coin purse filled with MAC Lipglass."

What product can't you live without?
"I go crazy if I don't have Pond's Makeup Remover Towelettes. I never go to sleep with my makeup on."
Nigella Lawson talks about beauty

Nigella Lawson, food writer and host of Forever Summer with Nigella, 44

What product can't you live without?
"In my 20s, I started using a cleanser made of pure essential oils by the British aesthetician Eve Lom. It gets my skin absolutely clean and leaves it so soft. But there's another thing I can't live without: passion. When you feel completely alive in your body, you feel good and you're more beautiful."

What's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to you about the way you look?
"It's not what someone tells you, it's how a person looks at you—like the way my husband, Charles, looks at me when he says, 'Let me see that face....'"

That's a pretty big bag you've got there.
"I'm traveling a lot. I don't carry many beauty products. The cleanser, Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Lip Protectant Stick, Laura Mercier pressed powder, and Estée Lauder eyeliner pencil and Advanced Night Repair Complex, which is wonderful for burns I sometimes get in the kitchen."

Have you ever felt stymied by a beauty problem?
"Aging, but I'm trying to go with it. I think what ages a face most is disappointment and a lack of enjoyment. So I try to do what I love."
Lauren Hutton talks about beauty

Lauren Hutton, model and entrepreneur, 60

What's the first thing you notice when you look in the mirror?
"Whether or not I look happy. I can pretty much tell right away."

You don't seem to carry much in your bag.
"I don't. But I always have my Good Stuff Face Disc with everything I need—blush, lip tint, concealer."

How did you solve your most intractable beauty problem?
"I just try to do my best to look good—get enough sleep, stay healthy, have fun with makeup—then forget about it! If you obsess about your looks, it kills your spirit."
