On with the Show

At this month’s cover shoot, Oprah proved she’s just a Broadway baby. Having seen Hello, Dolly! the night before, our model was suddenly inspired to burst into a chorus of "Before the Parade Passes By." Her bright striped dress only added to the moment: "You don’t wander around in these colors, you go"—up popped her jazz hands—"I’m herrre!" In this case, "here" was Wave Hill, a Bronx cultural hub spread over 28 plush acres reminiscent of Tuscany. In a field surrounded by flower gardens, photographer Ruven Afanador instructed, "Run! Turn! Be happy!" The one-woman parade laughed, and a cover was born.

Glowing Reviews

Oprah's makeup artist, Derrick Rutledge, reveals how to shine on, morning, noon, and night.

1. Dior Diorshow Pump‘N’Volume Mascara, $29.50, sephora.com

Thick, dark lashes are a nice contrast against glowy makeup, so swipe on a few coats of volumizing mascara.

2. Maybelline New York The City Mini Palette in Chill Brunch Neutrals, $10, amazon.com/oprah

A sweep of metallic shadow from lid to crease adds dimension. This shimmery neutral palette is warm, subtle, and pure autumn.

3. Lancôme Le Metallique Metallic Lip Lacquer, $10, sephora.com

Matte lipstick provides staying power; layer a soft metallic gloss on top for instant interest.

Bold Brows

"Whenever I get my brows arched, people think I’ve had work done—that’s how much it changes the face," Oprah says as Derrick Rutledge highlights her browbone.
