Take a Shine to These Jeans
Coated denim is not the place for neon brights—deeper colors and neutrals are more versatile. As for silhouettes, bootcut, straight-leg, and skinny styles are most flattering.

Adam Says:

Pair coated denim with your usual work separates: a blazer, dressy blouse, or sweater set.

For evening, play up the subtle shine of the jeans by wearing them with a sparkly top and shoes.

The coating on denim jeans makes them less stretchy than the regular kind, so stay true to size when buying.

Why She Wasn't Crazy About Coated Denim
"I tried on a pair before, and they bunched up in strange places," Gorostiaga says. "I have hips and kind of a flat butt, so fit is very important."

Why She Loves It Now
Once she found the right size, Gorostiaga loved the versatility of her coated jeans. "These are comfortable and look like leather pants. Jeans can be expensive, so I also like the value: I can wear these to work and dress them up for night."

How to Care for Your Jeans
Whether they're colored, coated, or regular blue jeans, the way to clean them without excess fading is the same, says Nicole King-Burroughs, design director for the women's 1969 collection for Gap. "Turn them inside out before washing, use cold water on a gentle cycle with a minimal amount of soap, and keep them inside out when you dry them," she says. Another trick? Put them in the freezer for 24 hours, which kills odors without washing.
