Q: What products do I need to manage my dry, frizzy, end-of-summer hair?

A: I like to imagine that you earned your dry, frizzy, end-of-summer hair spending languid beach days reveling in sea breezes and driving around town in your convertible, top down, your hair streaming in the wind, wild and free. But maybe your hair is simply overwashed and suffering from the split ends we all get from time to time. In either case, to whip it back into shape, wash it with an antifrizz, moisturizing shampoo, says Kattia Solano, owner of the Butterfly Studio salon in New York City. (Try Fekkai Silky Straight Ironless Shampoo, $23; Fekkai.com.) Postshampoo, twist all the water out of your hair, section it, and work a generous amount of conditioner through each section. Leave the conditioner in for five to ten minutes and then rinse. (We like John Frieda Smooth Start Repairing Conditioner, $6.50; drugstores.) Once a week apply a preshampoo oil treatment, put on a shower cap, and keep it on for as long as you can stand it. Moisturizing treatments and regular trims should get you looking sleek again in a couple of months.
