For decades, Zainab Salbi has connected and inspired women who persist in war-torn regions around the world. She has acted as a powerful voice for reaching and uniting women through a shared perspective. To that end, Zainab founded Women for Women International, a humanitarian organization dedicated to women's rights and assisting survivors of war.
Her time at the organization taught Zainab a powerful lesson. "Whatever cause you are working on—even if it's raising your children—it does not require you to sacrifice yourself." Zainab says. "Because when we give out of fullness, we give [fully]. When we give out of scarcity, we do no not give fully."
Zainab finds great inspiration in the teachings of the great Sufi poet Rumi. She tells Oprah how she uses his words, chosen at random, to guide her through each day. Watch as she describes the many sources of tranquility she seeks out in her life—from mindful breathing to silly movies—and reveals how she finds happiness by seeing the beauty in everything.
