Best-selling author and acclaimed travel writer Pico Iyer has been to almost every corner of the world. Through it all, Pico says, he is most inspired not by the sights he encounters on his journeys but by the people he meets. One particularly notable person that the renowned journalist has spent considerable time with is the Dalai Lama.
"I met him when I was a teenager, and I travel with him across Japan every year, right next to him for eight days or 10 days," Pico says. "That's been an enormous blessing and teaching."
The Dalai Lama has a "light" about him, Pico adds—as do his friends, like Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Watch as Pico describes this light and what it is like being in the presence of such "light-filled beings." Plus, Pico shares what mindful practice he aspires to do each day and how "doing nothing" truly steeps his soul.
